It feels like it was just yesterday when Taylor Swift went on Good Morning America and announced the Eras Tour. And tonight, after nearly two years of touring around the world, Taylor will play her final performance of the Eras Tour in Vancouver.
I’ve been listening to her music ever since I heard “Teardrops On My Guitar” on Radio Disney in 2006, and I instantly fell in love. As a young girl, I was wonderstruck by some of her later hits such as “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me”. I watched her transition from her country era with the pretty gowns and the princess vibes, to her pop eras such as Red and 1989, and finally to her more alternative eras such as Folklore and Evermore where she switched the narrative and told the story of a fictional teenage love triangle instead of telling stories about her own life. And then, I watched her reclaim the work that was stolen from her by Scooter Braun with each re-recording she has put out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an artist switch between completely different genres as flawlessly as she did. This is all to say I knew the Eras Tour, a whole celebration of almost 20 years of music, was going to be nothing short of absolutely special. And so, I went into the trenches of Ticketmaster and managed to find myself a ticket.
Love her or hate her, there is one thing about Taylor Swift that no one can deny; the woman is a total trooper. In the past 5 years, she has released 9 albums, 5 of which were new releases. For 2 of those 5 years, she was out on tour, performing for almost 3.5 hours every night. Having been to the show, I can say she never missed a beat the entire time. Nothing stopped her and her crew from going out and performing for her fans; rain, snow, heat, breakups…that’s true dedication right there. I could barely get through one show of that magnitude, let alone 152.
The concert itself was one thing, but it was the Swiftie community that made this tour what it was. I will never forget having conversations with the other Swifties on the Jersey Transit about what we thought she was going to perform in the surprise song section, walking through MetLife Stadium and having random girls come up to me all night to compliment my outfit and offer me a friendship bracelet. Although I went by myself, I had made friends with the girls seated near me by the end of the night, and we were all dancing with each other all night. If only the whole world would treat one another the same way girls were treating each other at the Eras Tour…
Luckily, the fun didn’t end with my show. For almost two years, I would tune in on Tik Tok and watch a grainy livestream of the show every weekend. My fellow Swifties and I would play a game we liked to call Swiftball, which later evolved into Mastermind, and we would try and predict the outfits Taylor was going to wear each night, and the songs she was going to play during the surprise song section. Those of us who had tickets would collectively mourn the “loss” of each surprise song we wanted to hear that was played before our shows. The Eras Tour has been such a huge part of my life for almost two years now, and I’m so sad to see it come to an end.
Congratulations to Taylor Swift and her entire crew on a remarkable run of the Eras Tour. I can’t wait to see what’s next, but for now, I will always cherish the almost two years of memories of this tour 💚💛💜❤️🩵🖤🩷🩶🤎💙🤍
